The TEFAP Program is funded under the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and USDA.
The program is designed to provide nutritious supplemental foods to eligible customers whose income is below 150% of the poverty guidelines or who show eligibility for SNAP (Food Stamps), Families First, Supplement Security Income, Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program or documented residence in public housing.
The food is distributed by the Northwest TN Economic Development Council CAA on a quarterly basis (January, April, July and October) of each year by our nine county Service Centers. There will be one order of food allowed per household.
The foods are purchased by the Department of Agriculture and allocated to the service areas. USDA tries to purchase a variety of the most nutritious foods with the funding available.
Food items include but are not limited to: Canned Meats, Canned Fruits, Canned Fruit Juices, Dried Beans, Canned Vegetables such as Peas, Beans, Tomatoes, Potatoes, Corn, etc., Spaghetti, Spaghetti Sauce, Dried Fruits such as raisins, Plums and Figs, Oats, Peanut Butter, Vegetable Soup, Vegetable Mix, Instant Milk, UHT 2% Milk, Rice, Applesauce
